当我们阅读创世记第一和第二章时，我们发现神创造各种动物，各从其类，但没有说到神创造撒旦。也没有说过神创造天使。
但我们阅读第3章，可以看出蛇如何诱使亚当和夏娃违抗神的道，吃知善恶树上的果子。至此我们现在熟悉了魔鬼，他的工作是违抗神。经上写到：“蛇对女人说:‘神岂是真说不许你们吃园中所有树上的果子吗？’”
