这世上有许多人想通过信仰耶稣重生。此外，还有许多人努力过形形色色的宗教生活，希望从罪孽中重生。有些人只希望从感情上重生，认为如果人作悔改的祈祷就能清洗自己的罪孽。有些基督徒认为捐赠大量的钱财能致使他们重生，于是，他们捐出很多钱，还有一些人认为建造许多教堂会使他们受到神的认可，于是他们忙于建造教堂大楼。
有些基督徒致力于传教工作，认为自愿参加或培训传教工作就能获得重生。因此，他们身体力行地从事传教工作，努力把耶稣介绍到各国，热情似火，不管形势多么危险。这些人把毕生都献给神。所有这些人都过信仰生活，认为他们某一天会重生。他们认为某一天神会使他们重生，因为他们为神活着。但是，那样的想法是错误的。
