(هو خريستوس) الذى يظهر كثيراً فى الأربعة أناجيل هو كلمة "المسيح" مسبوقة بأداة التعريف "ال" و يخبرنا أن يسوع هو الله المطلق ذاته. الله الآب، بكلمات أخرى، أرسل ابنه الوحيد ليخلص كل إنسان يحيا فى هذا العالم من كل الخطايا.
بأمانة تامة، هذين الاسّمين "يسوع" و"المسيح" لَيسَا قابلين للتبادل في الحقيقة. إنّ الاسم "يسوع" اسم المنقذِ الذي جاء كالشفيع للبشريةِ، كصانع السلامِ بين اللهِ و البشرِ. لكن الاسم "المسيح" يعنى "الشخص الممسوح،" و هو يَنْشأُ من تقاليد منطقةِ الشرق الأوسطِ القديمةِ، من طقوس تَمييزِ أولئك المُختَاَرين ليحملوا مسؤوليات المواقعِ العاليةِ بواسطة مسحهم.
