エペソにある教会は、パウロが説いた水と御霊の福音への信仰によって建設された神の教会でした。この聖句の「七つの金の燭台」とは、水と御霊の福音を信じる者の集まりである神の教会を指しており、「七つの星」とは、そこに仕える神のしもべを指しています。一方、「右手に七つの星を持つ方」とは、神ご自身がしもべを持ち、お使いになることを意味します。
神がしもべヨハネを通してアジアにある七つの教会に語られたことは、終わりの時を迎えようとしている現代のすべての教会にも向けられていることを、私たちは悟らなければなりません。神は教会としもべを通して私たちに語りかけ、私たちを待ち受けている試練と苦難に打ち勝つ方法を教えてくださっているのです。私たちは、黙示録のみことばを心に留めて、信じることによって、サタンに打ち勝たなければなりません。神は、ご自分の教会の一つひとつに語られています。
