在今天的經文裏，使徒保羅告訴迦拉太教會的聖徒說他很驚訝為什麼他們這麼快離開把他們引向基督恩典的水和聖靈福音，順從別的福音。他還說除了水和聖靈的福音以外，沒有別的福音，宣佈凡跟從別的福音的人都要被詛咒。使徒保羅在這裏說別的福音指當時行割禮之人鼓吹的假教義，宣佈任何人做神的百姓都必須在身體上行割禮。
對於每個人來說，只有正確理解神賜予我們的水和聖靈福音，在心裏信仰這福音時，他才能領受真正罪孽得赦。但是，在早期教會時期，在迦拉太教會那些更改猶太教信仰的猶太基督徒想在神的教會裏傳播律法主義的信仰。換言之，他們爭辯說，即使人們信仰，他們也必須在身體上行割禮，才能完全做神的百姓。結果，許多聖徒放棄水和聖靈的福音，順從他們的假教訓，最終使他們走向靈性死亡。
