在今天的經文裏，我們發現為耶穌施洗的施洗約翰和福音書的作者使徒約翰都向我們見證耶穌，我們的主和救世主:“約翰為他作見證，喊著說:這就是我曾說:那在我以後來的，反成了在我以前的，因他本來在我以前”（約翰福音1:15)。施洗約翰見證耶穌基督說:“他來時，他會用火審判用水拯救。”使徒約翰見證耶穌說:“從他豐滿的恩典裏，我們都領受了，而且恩上加恩。律法本是藉著摩西傳的；恩典和真理都是由耶穌基督來的”(約翰福音1:16-17)。約翰福音繼續說:“從來沒有人看見神，只有在父懷裏的獨生子將他表明出來”(約翰福音1:18)。我們當中沒有人肉眼見過神。但是，我們通過在父懷裏神的獨生子能看見他。這表明只有在父懷裏的耶穌基督已經向我們顯示神的模樣。
