  • Gary Oppenheimer
    Dec 16 2025

Gary Oppenheimer is the creator of AmpleHarvest.org, a nationwide 501c3 nonprofit that connects home gardeners with local food pantries so surplus produce becomes nourishment instead of waste. He saw that solving hunger could start by unlocking the fresh food already growing in 62 million backyards, then built a nonprofit that makes sharing it easy for anyone. His work has helped more than 5,800 communities access healthier food while cutting unnecessary waste.

A self described “aging geek” and Master Gardener from northern New Jersey, Gary used his background in technology to tackle food waste and hunger in a simple, neighbor to neighbor way. Recognized as a CNN Hero and World Food Prize nominee, he still thinks like a backyard gardener at heart, believing that small acts like sharing a few extra tomatoes can quietly change lives.

Gary’s innovative view of hunger relief shows how simple ideas, scaled with smart technology, can spark real change.

  • Dr. Michael Wayne
    Oct 6 2025

What has happened to democracy in the U.S., and how can it be `saved? This is a question many of us are asking and our guest today has been working on this problem and this question.

Michael Wayne, is a filmmaker, writer/author, and doctor. He is also an activist for a just society and world, a progressive, and an advocate for economic democracy.

In his own words, Dr Wayne says:

"…[With} Donald Trump once again ascending to the presidency and testing the limits of democracy, I decided I wanted to make a documentary film that looks at what democracy is, how it's defined, the roots of democracy, the periods in time when democracy flourished and struggled, and how things can be restored to the true promise of what democracy holds. "

The people interviewed — Pulitzer Prize winners, journalists, authors, activists, constitutional scholars, and historians — all provide depth and perspective on what it would take to realize the aspirations of democracy.

Michael has been a guest of ours before and we’re so lucky to have him back again in our Second Season and we could talk about all the changemaking work he does. But today, we’re concentrating in our 20 minutes on the subject of Democracy and his film HOW TO SAVE DEMOCRACY so we can get the word out because we’re hoping our viewing and listening audiences will help Dr. Wayne bring this film to more people.
