 Welcome, Children, zu einer neuen Folge von Pop. Kultur. Queers.! Es ist immer noch Juni und der Pride Month ist noch in vollem Gange. Auch heute stellen wir euch einen kultigen queeren Film vor: die bahnbrechende, educating, Sprache verändernde, aber auch in Teilen kontroverse Dokumentation "Paris is Burning". Der Film aus dem Jahr 1990 gewährt einen bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt nicht dagewesenen Einblick in die Ballroom-Szene New Yorks, die primär von queeren und Trans* People of Color aufgesucht wurde. Ihr benutzt "Shade", "Reading", oder "Tens across the Board" und denkt, dass ihr diese bei "RuPaul's Drag Race" aufgeschnappt hat? Nope! Es sind die Stimmen der Legendary Mothers and Children und anderen Performer*innen der Ballroom-Szene New Yorks, die diese iconic Begriffe, die es zum Teil ins Dictionary geschafft haben, mithilfe von "Paris is Burning" in die Popkultur gevogued haben. Der Film ist jedoch nicht ohne seine Kontroversen, von denen wir eine Handvoll diskutieren. Bei "RuPaul's Drag Race - All Stars All Winners" geht es heute um Draguation Speeches. Von Kultleaderinnen, über betrunkene Middle Aged Aunties, bis hin zu Hermione Grangers älterer Drag Schwester ist alles vertreten.
