The Toledo native won a state championship at Central Catholic High School and went on a bus tour with Ted Ginn Sr. to eventually earn an Ohio State scholarship offer.

He played in four BCS games, including the national championship game in 2007, and caught nine passes in the Rose Bowl in his junior campaign.
