Como en muchos pueblos de España, el jueves lardero es el puntapié inicial previo al domingo de carnaval.
Pero Fuentes de Andalucia, tal vez celebre el más original de todos. Desde la década del 20, el carnaval fontaniego se ha caracterizado por su originalidad, único en su disfráz de máscaras y murgas . A pesar de estar prohibido durante la guerra civil entre 1937 y 1954, se sabe que el carnaval continuaba en casas privadas donde también se cantaban coplas carnavalescas.
