About this listen

The UK has become the first European country to approve lab-grown meat, as pet food startup Meatly secured regulatory approval for its cultivated meat product. While lab-grown meat for human consumption is not yet approved in Europe, its approval for pet food could pave the way for broader application of the technology.

At the same time, other pet techs are innovating with food — from creating protein-rich ingredients from yeast fermentation to protein derived from fungi. This episode will explore some of these innovations, asking what it means for pets — and what it means for the world.
