Pablo escribió esta carta hace 2000 años. Los «rudimentos» a los que se refiere son los principios básicos de la Ley que llevan a una vida de fe legalista. Los judíos solían aprender todo en una yeshiva. El Apóstol Pablo tuvo como maestro al famoso Gamaliel, que le enseñó a temer a Dios a través de la Ley. Por eso el Apóstol Pablo llamaba «rudimentos» a estar sujeto a la Ley, aprender la Ley y practicar la Ley incluso tras la venida de Jesucristo.
