About this listen
Dopamine Imbalance and Reward-Seeking - Dopamine is the brain’s “motivation and reward” chemical. When it becomes dysregulated (often from stress, overstimulation, or frequent sugar/fat intake), the brain craves quick dopamine spikes — which food can easily provide. This leads to impulsive eating, even when not hungry, because the brain associates food with emotional relief and reward.
Emotional Regulation Problems - People often binge to numb, escape, or soothe difficult emotions like stress, anxiety, sadness, boredom, or loneliness. Food temporarily dulls negative feelings by triggering serotonin and dopamine release — but guilt and shame afterward create a harmful cycle.
