Black x Japanese American Solidarity in ‘Desolate Dreams’

  • Summary

  • Desolate Dreams is a short film in pre-production set in 1942 in downtown Los Angeles. It follows Robert Parker (Deon Tillman), an African American journalist who advocates for justice alongside a Japanese American family forced into a prison camp after issuing Executive Order 9066 following the events of Pearl Harbor.

In this conversation, we’re joined by Writer - Director Kiyoka “Kex” Rhodes, Deon Tillman, and Brent Yoshida to discuss the pre-production process, the inspiration behind ‘Desolate Dreams’ and what this project means to them on a professional and personal level.
