Der von der Ostseeinsel Fehmarn stammende Birger Schmidt hat mit „11mm“ in Berlin das inzwischen älteste und größte Fußballfilmfest der Welt aus der Taufe gehoben. Außerdem brachte er die Idee des „Lernorts Stadion“ aus Großbritannien nach Deutschland. Dank ihm wird nun das Kehrwegstadion der KAS Eupen zur ersten belgischen Variante dieser „Lernorte“. In dieser Ausgabe von „Fritten und Fussball“ spricht Birger Schmidt mit Thomas Philipp Reiter über die Chancen, die er für Jugendliche mit seiner Initiative kreiert, was Rudi Assauer damit zu tun hatte und wie ihm Torwartlegende Sepp Maier einst wertvolles Filmmaterial überließ, aus dem ein abendfüllender Kinofilm wurde.
