About this listen
English Translation:
The Second Book of Chronicles extends the history of Judah, which began in the First Book of Chronicles. It was written after people began returning to Israel from exile in Babylon in 538 BC. C. The "chronicles", perhaps trying to encourage the returned exiles, relate the construction and dedication of Solomon's temple and recall the wisdom and power of this great king. Most of the book, however, focuses on the reality of Judah's fall into sin that led them into exile. Judah had several kings faithful to God, especially Hezekiah and Josiah, but still converted to sin. However, God remained faithful to His covenant people. The book also records the decree of Cyrus King of Persia that allowed the exiled Jews to return to their Promised Land. (Summary by Claudia R Barrett)Copyright ciesse
