 Með góðri frammistöðu Júgóslavana sem komu fyrstir til að spila fótbolta á Íslandi litu íslensk félög sífellt meira til Balkanskagans í leit að styrkingu. Árið 1992 voru minnst 20 leikmenn frá gömlu Júgóslavíu sem spiluðu í efstu fjórum deildum Íslandsmótsins. Rætt er við Milan Stefán Jankovic, Hajrudin Cardaklija, Zoran Daniel Ljubicic, Ejub Purisevic, Hjörvar Hafliðason og Luka Lúkas Kostic .
