Mit der Weltfinanzkrise blühte sog. "Recession Pop" auf, also schnelle, laute, tanzbare Popmusik, die gute Stimmung zur schlechten Lage verbreiten wollte. Die New Yorker Sängerin Lady Gaga wurde 2008 fast über Nacht mit avantgardistischen Bühnenoutfits, Eurodance-Beats und queer-feministischem Spektakel weltbekannt. Ihr Song "Bad Romance" ist ein Jahr später ein Beispiel für den sog. 'Millennial Whoop', bei dem Silben ohne Bedeutung aneinandergereiht werden und Ordnung in chaotisch gewordene Zeichen bringen.
