  • ASG - Right and Wrong
    Feb 21 2025

In a welcome-back episode, Scott tackles the All-Star Game and player motivation.
Why don't NBA players play hard in the ASG?
How do we get them to push harder?
The dunk contest, skills competition and game are in need of some overhaul. It's time to get back to ball and stop with all the circus stuff.

  • Aggression & Confrontation
    Feb 2 2024

The League and all of basketball is suffering from the disease discovered by Diddy.
This week we're addressing this problem.....a lack of aggression. Scott looks at who is winning by attacking and who has hit a wall because they won't run through it. We also address the Doc Rivers era in Milwaukee and why he's the wrong man for that job and maybe others. And as always we'll tell you which games matter this week.\

  • Thievery and the Old Man at the Club
    Jan 21 2024

The season is halfway done! Some teams never had a chance and they're stealing season ticket revenues from their fans and Scott isn't afraid to call them out on it. Check out who's not even trying and who isn't good at trying. It's also time to say our goodbyes to some franchises in the twilight of their runs. Father Time is undefeated and this is a business. We're also looking at a trade that doesn't move the meter for either team.....which is unfortunate when one of them has some potential.

It’s trade talk time! This is when champions can be made and early season success is tested. What do the Knicks need to make some noise in the postseason? Is there any what to save the Lakers? Should the Celtics & Sixers to anything at all? Scott offers up all the trades that SHOULD happen….let’s see who listens to the Average White Fan.

  • Winners, Losers and Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes
    Dec 14 2023

    We have a WINNER!
The first-ever NBA Cup was taken by the Lakers. What went right with the IST and where can they improve? Was this a moral victory for the Pacers? I'll tell you why we all won. Then, it's time to check in on the big off-season trades. Were our expectations too high for the Bucks? The Celtics? I'm handing out judgment this week. Finally, let's talk insanity - or doing the same thing expecting a different result. Which teams are staying the course and giving their fans nothing new?
As always, the AWF pod is bringing you an unfiltered view of a team sport from the team perspective. Enjoy the basketball......Yessir!

  • Identity Crisis and The Cup
    Dec 10 2023

Exciting times in the League and The Average White Fan goes beyond the fluff to tell you what it all means. First, I’m tackling the myth of the Big 3 team-building concept. And the FIRST EVER NBA Cup is about to be decided. It’s been a fun ride and it’s also telling us a lot about the teams that made it and the ones that didn’t. Why are the Lakers having success and the Clippers aren’t? How did the Celtics fall to the young and scrappy Pacers? It’s time to check on team identity and how it’s affecting the season so far. And we wrap up with a rant about the “too many ejections” and “over-officiating” crisis. Are the critiques too harsh? Are players exercising a double standard? Let me know what you think on IG @averagewhitefan and don’t forget to subscribe and rate.

  • Crystal Balls & Bad Calls
    Nov 22 2023

This week on Average White Fan, Scott hits you with a quick 2-for-1 to start the show.  After watching a few games this week he’s wondering if people just like saying “small ball” or do they actually know how to play it.  And what’s up with the post-up?  Is it time for this dying art to make a comeback?

Also, which coaches are dealing with overbearing bosses and who’s getting the space to do their job?  No doubt there are meddling NBA owners like Balmer in LA and Dolan in New York or smarter-than-everyone GMs like Morey in Philly.  We discuss how backseat driving can get a coach crushed in the media and make him a joke to his team.

We're also looking back at preseason predictions.  Some teams are living up to expectations and some are looking like scrubs.  Who gets a pat on the back and who’s getting roasted at the barber shop?

AND, it’s time to check in on our rookie class.  First-rounders come into the league with fly suits and a lot of buzz.  We’re gonna talk about who’s making an impact like the Thompson Twins and Derek Lively.  There’s also time for question marks like Scoot Henderson and the head-scratchers like Taylor Hendricks.

This week's episode is late again!
This week on Average White Fan, we're diving into Week 2 of the NBA's in-season tournament, where unexpected heroes emerge. We're asking the tough questions: Does your team have that 'dawg' mentality? And what happens when an 'Old Head’ reveals a surprising lack of fight?

We're also tackling the heated debate around LeBron's legacy with the Heat – flipping the script on why pondering if the Heat “made” LeBron is not only the wrong question but a trivial pursuit in the grand scheme of his career.

Plus, we're handing out grades for team chemistry across the league. From the high drama squads to the silent powerhouses, we analyze who's concocting the winning formula and who's still searching for the right mix. As always, we bring you basketball analysis with just the right dose of team mentality. Join us for an episode that blends deep sports insights with cultural commentary, all from the perspective of the Average White Fan. 🏀
