About this listen

today we’ll be talking with Mo Harper-Desir an arts activist, working in Eureka, CA striving to connect communities of Black folks in her county. As an artist Mo actively creates using Hip-Hop, Hip Hop theater, Dance and Poetry. Now in April 2018 Mo and partner Dionna co-founded Black Humboldt, as a response to Humboldt County's social climate, injustices, and lack of safe Black spaces. They wanted to provide a platform for all black and brown folks who shared similar needs and interests while existing in Humboldt. What started as a social media platform expanded into a hub for the creation of events, workshops, and forums for their community. Black Humboldt provides a space where people can see a positive and beautiful reflection of themselves.
