Pertany a una ètnia que es va formar a partir de l'evolució genètica i cultural d'un conjunt de pobles que van emigrar des de la zona del Punjab cap a l'Occident fins a tota Europa i, avui en dia, per tot el mon.
Però aquest poble no ho va passar gens bé: s'han fet més de 200 lleis en el territori que ara coneixem com Espanya en contra de la seva cultura, la seva llengua i, fins i tot, de la seva existència.
