About this listen

Good afternoon. Alabama. I'm Matt Mullins. If your windshield looked like a waterfall this morning, you're not imagining things. We picked up three-quarters of an inch overnight. And scattered showers are still drifting through. The heaviest rain has pushed south, but expect lingering drizzle and fog through early afternoon. Here's the breakdown. Central Alabama tops out near 73 degrees with showers winding down by early evening. Down along the coast. Mobile and Pensacola hit the mid-70s with thunderstorms possible through late afternoon. Northern Alabama sees similar temps — low 70s — but rain tapers off sooner, by mid-afternoon. Clouds stick around most of the day statewide. Tonight, mostly cloudy skies settle in. Lows drop to the upper 50s up north, around 60 in Birmingham. And mid-60s along the coast. Patchy dense fog develops after midnight, especially in southwest Alabama. Here's your heads-up for the week ahead. Monday brings a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms, mainly west of Interstate 65. There's a marginal risk of large hail if storms fire up. Highs push into the upper 70s. Tuesday looks dry and warm — near 80 degrees under partly sunny skies. That's 39 degrees above normal for early March. Enjoy it. Wednesday ramps up. Rain showers develop by afternoon, then a strong cold front sweeps through Wednesday night. Expect widespread showers and thunderstorms, some possibly severe, with damaging winds the main threat. Highs reach the low 80s before the front arrives. Thursday brings a dramatic cooldown. Temperatures crash to the upper 50s under sunny skies. Friday morning could see lows in the upper 30s with patchy frost possible in sheltered areas. Keep an umbrella handy today. See you this evening.
