About this listen

Good morning. Alabama. I'm Aaron Jolly. Step outside and you'll feel it right away. That thick, damp air is clinging to everything like a wet blanket. Classic Alabama humidity making its early spring return. We're waking up to 66 degrees under gray skies. And this muggy morning is just the opening act for a fairly rowdy afternoon. A storm system is marching statewide today, bringing two very different stories depending on where you call home. Up north, the Tennessee Valley is taking the hardest hit. Huntsville braces for strong thunderstorms by early afternoon — some could pack a punch with gusts hitting 60 miles an hour. You'll hit 78 degrees before the storms arrive around 3 P.M. Tonight doesn't offer much relief; lows drop to 61, but the rumbles continue until about 7 A.M. Sunday. Central Alabama follows close behind. Birmingham climbs to 79 degrees, but don't let that sun fool you. Those storms roll in by mid-afternoon, bringing heavy rain between 3 P.M. and midnight. You'll almost certainly hear thunder tonight, with lows staying mild at 62. Down along the coast, it's a different flavor of messy. Mobile starts at 81 degrees with patchy fog lingering through mid-morning. The bigger concern is the beach — dangerous rip currents will stick around through Sunday evening. While the coast stays mostly dry today, heavier rain moves in after midnight. In Here's surprise, this isn't a quick hit-and-run. These storms will train over the same areas, especially Sunday morning, raising flooding risks in southeast Alabama where up to 5 inches could pile up. Looking ahead, we stay unsettled through midweek. Another round of storms arrives Wednesday with a severe weather risk. But there's light at the end of the tunnel — by Friday, sunshine returns with highs in the pleasant upper 60s. In One quick heads-up, we're gaining 2 minutes of daylight today. Spring is officially just 13 days away. See you tomorrow. See you this afternoon.
