About this listen

When Kathy Wrenn’s son became addicted, she refused to accept helplessness.

Instead of giving up, she got educated, built structure, and changed how her family responded.

Kathy Wrenn is a mother from Richmond, Virginia whose son struggled with addiction. While many parents are told they “can’t control it” and are handed catchphrases about “tough love,” Kathy took a different path. She asked a different question:

“What can I do?” In this episode, Kathy shares:

• What she changed in the family system

• Why she questioned common addiction advice

• How she got her husband on the same page

• What structure looks like in real life

• What families get wrong when they think “support” means “rescue”

Today, her son has been sober nearly 8 years, and Kathy now helps other families through a support structure she operates in the Richmond area. She was also recently featured in a documentary highlighting family recovery.

This conversation is about education, leadership, and refusing to stay powerless when someone you love is struggling with addiction.
