Bernard Moitessier è in un'ottima posizione, il Joshua è veloce e non dà pensieri, il marinaio è ormai esperto e capace, ma una solitudine così completa, per così tanto tempo, in condizioni così estreme, mette a dura prova l'uomo. Forse nemmeno lui si aspettava di smarrirsi nella nostalgia. Una lunga serie di bonacce lo aiuta a riprendere vigore e serenità, ed è così in ottima forma che si prepara alla discesa nel Pacifico e a doppiare di nuovo Capo Horn. Barca e marinaio non sono mai stati così pronti.
