About this listen

Trigger Warning: Very real & intense experiences of racial trauma and suicidality

This is part of a series I recorded 2.5 years ago when I was directly active in social justice & racial equity. Though this episode does not fully reflect my current work, it is still near and dear to my heart.

Navigating racial & bicultural identity is challenging in Western society. Most therapists are not even adequately educated or trained on these issues to be able to support individuals struggling with racism (as my guest talked about).

There is no agenda or intention in sharing this episode except to increase awareness around the issues that Asians, as well as all other races face, growing up in the USA.

A useful model that I have recently learned about in navigating racial & bicultural identities comes from Sue & Sue. Derald Wing Sue is a pioneer at the intersection of mental health, racism and identity who is worth checking out.
