About this listen
Dylan sits down with his aunt Marsha Miller to discuss Marsha's father and Dylan's grandfather, LeRoy Benjamin Hayslett's life and tour of duty through World War II.
As member of the 3rd Infantry Division Roy landed in North Africa on 8 November 1942, the first day of the Allies' European assault. Roy was the Field Wire Chief for the 15th Infantry Regiment, where he laid communication wire in front of advancing troops in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, and Germany. For his actions Roy was awarded the Silver Star at Anzio and the Croix de Guerre in France.
All told, Roy spent 531 days in combat in the European Theater. This is his story.
Originally recorded Thanksgiving 2018.
