Dopo la celebre “Patetica” la serie delle sonate prosegue con due lavori, invece, un po’ negletti da pubblico ed interpreti: il dittico dell’op.14, pagine dal carattere decisamente meno drammatico, che spazia dall’umoristico all’amabilmente espressivo, in tre movimenti e di fatto prive di un vero e proprio tempo lento centrale. Fa quindi la prima comparsa “ufficiale”, cioè nel novero delle composizioni con numero d’opera, la forma breve della Bagatella con la prima delle tre raccolte pubblicate, l’op.33.
