主在约翰福音第6章说:“我是生命的粮。”人们从耶稣那里吃到肉体的食物。第二天,他们再去找耶稣,但是耶稣告诉他们不要为那必坏的食物劳力,要为那存到永生的食物劳力。所以,人们问:“我们当行什么,才算做神的工呢”(约翰福音6:28)?耶稣回答说:“信神所差来的,这就是做神的工”(约翰福音6:29)。
人们又问:“你的意思是说你是被神差来的,你是从天上下来的吗?如果这样,你有什么证据说你是从天上下来的呢?请给我们证据。正如经上所写,摩西用天上下来的吗哪喂给以色列的百姓,但你能行这样的奇迹吗?”
