肘指從手指尖到手肘的長度。在聖經裏一肘約相當於現在的45釐米。施恩座的長度爲兩肘半，轉換成米制相當於113釐米(3.7英尺)。寬度爲一肘半，約67.5釐米(2.2英尺)。至此我們對施恩座的大小有了一個基本的認識。
法櫃先用皂莢木製造，然後內外包上金子。但放在法櫃上的施恩座完全用純金做成。基路伯在兩端高張翅膀，遮掩施恩座—即施恩座—基路伯面對施恩座。施恩座是神對那些因信來到他身邊的人賜予恩典的地方。
四個金環安在法櫃的每個角上。這邊兩個環，那邊兩個環，把杠子放入金環內就可以搬動法櫃。這些杠子用皂莢木做成，並包上金子。把杠子放入一邊的兩個金環內，和另一邊兩個金環內，神使兩個人就能擡得動法櫃。我們的主還說，“我要在那裏與你相會。”
