Поэтому Иосиф Аримафейский, который верил в Иисуса как в своего Спасителя, попросил Пилата отдать ему Его тело, чтобы Он мог Его похоронить. Он сделал это, даже несмотря на то, что все прочие ученики Иисуса и Его последователи бежали. Таким образом, Иосиф взял у Пилата разрешение, снял тело Иисуса с креста и омыл его. Никодим, который появляется в 3-й главе Евангелия от Иоанна, тоже пришёл и принёс около ста литров смеси смирны и алоэ. Иосиф и Никодим начисто омыли тело Иисуса и обвили его полотнами. Затем они положили тело Иисуса в маленькую гробницу в саду рядом с Голгофой.
