 Es ist der 24. November 1971: An Bord des Fluges 305 der Northwest Orient Airlines von Portland nach Seattle sitzt ein Mann, der auffällt. Er trägt einen dunklen Anzug, ein weißes Hemd, eine schwarze Krawatte, braune Slipper – dazu einen Trenchcoat und eine Sonnenbrille. Ein Gentleman, wie er im Buche steht. Doch seine Absichten sind alles andere als nobel. Denn dieser Mann hat nicht vor, nach Seattle zu fliegen. Seine Tat wird die Behörden noch viele Jahrzehnte beschäftigen und es gab kaum einen Fall in der US-Geschichte, der mehr Aufwand, Zeit und Geld gefressen hat als dieser.
