1999年、名古屋市西区に住む主婦・高羽奈美子さん(32)が自宅アパートで何者かに刃物で首を刺され死亡しているのが発見された。発見時、ベビーチェアに座る長男(2)は無事で、犯行は長男の前で行われたとみられている。自宅の玄関には犯人の血痕、靴の跡が残っており、犯行現場からの逃走経路も目撃情報によって概ねわかっているが、犯人は未だ見つかっていない。
夫の悟さんは犯行現場となったアパートの一室を今も借り続けている。
