Il Quartetto in do maggiore op. 59 n. 3, l’ultimo dedicato a Razumovsky ricevette da subito un’accoglienza favorevole, perché in esso le novità di scrittura – non meno presenti che negli altri due lavori – si manifestavano sullo sfondo di alcuni “luoghi comuni”, ben riconoscibili da parte di un pubblico avvezzo ai modelli haydniani e mozartiani. Pur non presentando alcun esplicito “tema russo”, il quartetto prevede un secondo movimento ricco di pathos e chiaramente improntato al tono popolare tanto caro agli intellettuali romantici.
