В Библии локоть — это длина от конца руки до локтя. Поэтому локоть в ветхом завете принято рассматривать как 500 миллиметров по современной системе мер. В таком случае два с половиной локтя длины крышки — это по современным меркам около 1 метра, а её ширина и высота в полтора локтя — это примерно 750 миллиметров. Под этой крышкой стоял ковчег завета, который тоже был сделан из дерева акации и покрыт чистым золотом. По обеим сторона крышки находились два херувима с распростёртыми над нею крыльями, лица их были обращены друг к другу и к крышке. У этой крышки Бог даровал Свою благодать.
