En el Antiguo Testamento hay un sacerdote llamado Melquisedec. Cuando leemos Génesis 14, vemos que Abraham tomó un ejército formado de su casa para librar una batalla contra Chedorlaeomer, el rey de Elam, y otros reyes que se aliaron con él, y que rescató a su sobrino Lot después de vencerlos a todos. En aquel entonces, cuando Abraham volvía de la guerra, un sacerdote llamado Melquisedec le llevó pan y vino y le bendijo. Así que Abraham separó una décima partes del botín de guerra y se lo dio a Melquisedec el Sacerdote (Génesis 14, 17-20).
