Annette Evans wird 1967 in Jena geboren und wächst in der DDR auf. Schon als Kind träumt sie von Freiheit und dem Westen. Reisen ins nichtsozialistische Ausland sind für sie jedoch verboten. Zuflucht findet sie in der Jungen Gemeinde und in ihren eigenen Gedichten.
Als junge Frau bekommt sie schließlich doch die Chance, nach Westdeutschland zu reisen – und trifft eine überraschende Entscheidung: Sie kehrt zurück in die DDR, zumindest vorerst.
