イエスが山に登って宣べ伝えられると、大勢の人の群れがイエスにつき従っていました。そして、一回の昼食分にしかならないわずかな食物を手に取り、イエスはそれを祝福され、パンと魚で五千人以上の人々を養い、なお余ったもので十二のかごがいっぱいになったという奇蹟を起こされました。そこで、人々はイエスに従い、イエスを自分たちの王として迎えようとしました。彼らは、「こんな王がいたら素晴らしくないか。」と思いました。ですから、主を自分たちの王にしようとしましたが、イエスは去って湖の向こう側に行ってしまいました。
