پاکترین مقام وہ جگہ تھی جہاں خُدا رہتا تھا۔ اور صرف سردار کاہن ہی سال میں ایک بار، یومِ کفارہ پر، اسرائیلیوں کے گناہوں کی معافی کے لئے قربانی کے بکرے کا خون لے کر، پاکترین مقام میں داخل ہو سکتا تھا۔ وہ ایسا اِس لیےکرتا تھا کیونکہ خیمۂ اِجتماع کا پاکترین مقام، خُداکا گھر، ایک مقدس جگہ تھی جہاں وہ اُس وقت تک داخل نہیں ہو سکتا تھا جب تک کہ وہ قربانی کا خون نہ لیتا، جس کے سر پر، گنہگاروں کی بدکرداریاں مٹانے کے لئے، اُس کے ہاتھ رکھے جاتے تھے۔ مختلف الفاظ میں، حتیٰ کہ سردار کاہن بھی خُدا کی سزا سے بچ نہیں سکتا تھا جب تک کہ وہ اُس کی حضوری میں داخل ہونے سے پہلے قربانی پیش کرنے کے وسیلہ سے اپنے گناہوں کی معافی حاصل نہیں کر لیتا تھا۔
