Даже Авраам, отец веры, в действительности был слабым человеком по своей плоти. Его плоть не могла дождаться исполнения Божьего обетования, и поэтому он взял себе Агарь, служанку своей жены, и та родила ребёнка, который впоследствии восстал против Бога. В своей плоти Аврааму гордиться было нечем. Из-за своей плотской слабости он предал свою жену, чтобы спасти себе жизнь. Он поступил так, как никогда не должен поступать муж. Учитывая это, чем в своей плоти он мог бы похвалиться перед Богом? В своей плоти ему было хвалиться нечем.
