João do Rio é pseudônimo de João Paulo Emílio Cristóvão dos Santos Coelho Barreto, jornalista, cronista, tradutor e teatrólogo. Ele viveu no final do século XIX e início do século XX, entre 1881 e 1921, e ficou conhecido por seu estilo dândi, polêmico, e representante da belle époque carioca.
