About this listen

Viktor Frankl has become one of the most renowned psychiatrists and philosophers in history. From a young age, he possessed the curiosity to ask the all-important question, "What is the meaning of life?" Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to exploring this question in his work. What sets Frankl apart is that he was also a Holocaust survivor, enduring the extreme torment and torture of concentration camps. Despite these hardships, he emerged from the experience and shared the lessons he learned with the world through lectures and his book.

What is even more fascinating is that it almost seemed as if Viktor Frankl chose to be placed in one of these concentration camps as a sort of test. While living in Vienna, Austria, he had the opportunity to flee to the United States, but he refused to leave his parents behind. Knowing that capture was inevitable, he saw it as the ultimate test of life. He believed that if he could survive this ordeal, he might discover the meaning of life.

Fortunately, Viktor Frankl did survive and went on to hold professorships at Harvard, Stanford, and the University of Pittsburgh. He also served as the head of the Department of Neurology in Vienna for 25 years. He gave lectures around the world, sharing his experiences and promoting a therapeutic technique called Logotherapy, which helps individuals find meaning in life. In addition to these accomplishments, the book we are discussing today was originally written in 1959 and has sold over 12 million copies worldwide.

Frankl went on to achieve this and much more before his passing at the age of 92.

Today we will try to explain the meaning of life through the life of Viktor Frankl
