Nachdem Jesus das Wunder der Speisung von über 5000 Menschen vollbracht hatte, wollte Er den See in Richtung einer Stadt namens Kapernaum überqueren. Als die Leute versuchten, Ihn zu ihrem weltlichen König zu machen, ging Jesus allein auf einen Berg, um zu beten, und in der Zwischenzeit segelten Sein Jünger allein in Richtung Kapernaum hinüber. Nachdem die Jünger drei oder vier Meilen gesegelt waren, kam ein heftiger Sturm auf. Als Jesus jedoch auf dem Wasser ging und in das Boot kam, konnten sie ihr Ziel sicher erreichen.
