Maddalena Bonechi conclude l’esame dell’op. 18, avviata nelle prime due puntate, con il Quartetto in la maggiore op. 18 n. 5 e il Quartetto in si bemolle maggiore op. 18 n. 6. Il Quartetto op. 18 n. 5 presenta diversi legami con il Quartetto in la maggiore K. 464 di Mozart, nonché con l’op. 74 n. 2 di Haydn. Nel Quartetto op. 18 n. 6 l’Adagio finale, intitolato da Beethoven stesso La Malinconia, è caratterizzato da una melodia lenta e grave cui risponde l’Allegretto quasi Allegro, dai toni del Ländler. Proprio in questi evidenti contrasti è possibile rintracciare il germe di alcune delle innovazioni del Beethoven successivo.
