Vous avez sûrement déjà entendu cette idée reçue, il paraît que les Américains n’aiment pas la terre battue. C’est en tout cas ce que disent les chiffres. Depuis le début de l’ère Open en 1968, le pays de l’oncle Sam a gagné 4 titres chez les hommes à Roland Garros, contre 14 à l’Open d’Australie, 15 à Wimbledon et 19 à l’US Open, une différence conséquente. Né et formé en Floride, Jim Courier n’a donc a priori aucune raison d’aimer courir sur la terre battue. Mais l’Américain a un lien particulier avec l’ocre de la Porte d’Auteuil.
