Desperate and determined, she took on daily work as a house-cleaner and laundress. Striving to improve her circumstances, she later became a housekeeper for a wealthy Scottish cattle-man, Mr. Stewart, in Wyoming. These letters, sent over a span of years to her former employer in Denver, chronicle her journey and transformation in this new, unfamiliar land.
