Il n. 2 in fa maggiore si caratterizza per i suoi atteggiamenti musicali più scherzosi, salottieri e talvolta rustici, che richiamano ancora una volta lo spirito di Mozart e di Haydn. Il Quartetto n. 4 in do minore è l’unico in tonalità minore di tutta l’op. 18: pagina dai toni drammatici, è priva del movimento lento.
