About this listen

This is a podcast program that broadcasts the traditional Japanese art of Rakugo to the world. This is an introductory program that can be enjoyed even by people who know nothing about Rakugo. The speakers are actual Rakugo storytellers, Kokontei Yusuke and Sanyutei Kouseinen. You'll also get to know our hosts, Kokontei Yusuke and Sanyutei Kouseinen, as they share their fascinating personal stories about how they became professional Rakugo storytellers. This will be the second time we are performing "Shimekomi." "Shimekomi" is a humorous story full of humanity, set in the tenement houses where common people lived in the Edo period. The fun of this story lies in the setting itself, a tenement house in the Edo period. The walls of tenement houses at that time were incomparably thin compared to modern apartments, and the conversations and daily sounds of neighbors could be heard clearly. It was a close-knit community with almost no privacy. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
