Summary

Joli and Aswin welcome their special guest, Nicola Allan, to the show to talk all about decans! Nicola is founder of The Wild Way, where she weaves her art and writing with astrology and divination.

She is currently working on creating a tarot deck which you can get involved with here: https://www.backerkit.com/call_to_action/4634f681-5517-46a7-a93f-0acb966631f9/landing

During the discussion we briefly mentioned Manilius. Manilius does talk about decans in his great work, Astronomica, but he presents a system that is unique among Hellenistic astrologers.

Instead of assigning Egyptian deities or planetary rulers to the decans, Manilius distributes each 10-degree portion of a sign to another zodiac sign. Manilius described the decan system as a form of "heavenly fellowship" or "hospitality," arguing that no sign has exclusive control over itself, rather signs *share* their powers with others in equal ten-degree portions. Manilius was noted for being the first to use the specific word "decanus" in an astrological context.
