כנסיית זמרינא נוסדה כאשר פאלוס שירת בקהילת אפסוס. על פי הקטע שלעיל, חברי הכנסיה הזו היו עניים אשר בגלל אמונתם עוררו איבה מצד היהודים בקהילתם. עד כמה כנסייה זו נרדפה על ידי אלוהים ניתן לראות על ידי מות הקדושים של פוליקארפ, משגיח בתקופת כנסיית האב. הקדושים של הכנסייה הקדומה עמדו בפני רדיפה מתמדת מצד המאמינים היהודים אשר דחו את ישוע כמשיחם.
